Summary
The Molisch test is used to detect the presence of carbohydrates in a sample. The test is based on the dehydration of carbohydrates to furfurals, which then form colored condensation products with α-naphthol. All carbohydrates (monosaccharides, disaccharides, polysaccharides) give positive reaction.
