Summary
| Description | A stretching cloud of particles above the Sun, arched, rose up and broke away from the Sun (Dec. 8, 2011) over five hours as viewed in profile in extreme ultraviolet light. These eruptive prominences are cooler clouds of unstable gases suspended above the Sun by magnetic forces. The sliding particles cascading above the bright, active region just to the north of the prominence make for interesting watching too. |
