Summary

Description The film shows a patient lying on his back in preparation for a bone marrow aspiration. Antiseptic is used to swab the sternum. The patient is draped. A local anesthetic is applied to the area. An incision is made with a scalpel. The syringe is inserted and .2 to .3 ml of marrow is withdrawn. Smears are rapidly prepared before the marrow clots. H&D and iron stains are prepared. A finger puncture is performed as a basis for comparison. Credits: Technical advisor, John T. Godwin.
