Summary

Description On this day in Southern labor history: The liberation of all enslaved people in the United States was achieved, finally, on June 19th, 1865, when 2,000 Union soldiers marched into Galveston Bay, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”
There is no racial justice without the abolition of lasting remnants of US slavery, and on Juneteenth, we remember and recommit to that struggle.
