Summary

Description The Fast Cloud Droplet Probe, or FCDP is a laser-based, profiler instrument that performs particle-size detection of water vapor and ice crystals. FCDP Researcher Sarah Woods, with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, describes how the instrument was used on NASA’s Airborne Tropical Tropopause Experiment, or ATTREX mission to help characterize the water vapor that the Global Hawk aircraft encountered at high altitudes. These in situ measurements helped the ATTREX researchers to define the cloud regions of interest during their data collection flights.
