Summary
| Description | Orlando police officers chased a stolen SUV at speeds as high as 80 mph, and down main roads and neighborhood streets. One officer lost control in someone’s yard after swerving to avoid a trash can. After at least a 9-minute high-speed chase, an unmarked OPD vehicle wedged 16-year-old Valine Thompson, the suspected armed carjacker, against the concrete barrier on the State Road 408 ramp at Lake Underhill. He could not outrun the SUV. He appeared to consider jumping for a split second, then turned the other way, saw an officer running at him, realized he was trapped, threw his hands up and dropped to the ground. In the next 16 seconds, before officers appeared to have him under control, OPD dash cam video shows an officer run up and immediately start bobbing up and down, while leaning on the barrier. Two officers admitted kicking Thompson in the face but said it was an accident. |
