| Description | On June 7, 2011 at about 06:15 there was a huge CME accompanied by a flare originating from the southwest quadrant of the Sun. The image and movie above shows the XRT view of this event. An activated filament is clearly seen lifting off and breaking away in these images. Larger views (see original post; link below) of this eruption from the AIA telescope on the SDO mission show a huge mass of material leaving the Sun, some of which falls back down to the Sun's surface under the force of gravity.
