Summary
| Description | In Oregon and Washington, the BLM manages about 2,439,000 acres of forested public lands. Nationally, the BLM manages close to 65 million acres of forest and woodlands across 12 western states and Alaska. BLM forests provide valuable fish and wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, forest products and clean water. The BLM emphasizes balancing the ecological, economic and social aspects of forests, managing them to consider the needs of future generations. The BLM manages forests and woodlands in accordance with the multiple-use, sustained yield mandate of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976, which means everything that forests provide today will also be provided in the future.
