Summary
| Description | This is a video of star spiders (Gasteracantha cancriformis) mating in the summer. It was not known that it mated in the summer, and the mating had never been observed in nature until now, only in a laboratory. This confirms most of the information about their mating found at http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.edu/accounts/Gasteracantha_cancriformis/, with exceptions being the length of the mating and the occurrence of it in summer. The male is in the top right and is making a rhythmic pattern of shaking the web four times in a row until the female suddenly bursts out and starts the mating. This happened shortly after the female created a web and lasted for over 4 hours. |
