Summary

Description (Critical) This program gives a good visual demonstration of proper Gram staining technique but does not cover Gram stain theory. The necessary equipment is shown and the sequential steps of the procedure are demonstrated from aseptic transfer of the specimen to the timing sequence of staining. The action of each reagent is briefly explained during the procedure. The importance of aseptic transfer is emphasized. If there is no bacteriology laboratory immediately available, this program can take the place of actual laboratory demonstration. Gram stain theory should be covered before the program is viewed. Overall, the program is recommended for use.
