| Description | Hurricane Ian left a trail of destruction in the U.S. state of Floriday on Thursday, after tearing through the Fort Myers area with howling winds and torrential rains. Nearly 2 million people were without power, and crews were preparing to conduct rescue efforts early Thursday as Tropical Storm Ian moved across Florida. Forecasters warned of life-threatening, record flooding in the central part of the state with the storm expected to emerge off the northeastern Florida coast into the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday before making a second landfall in the southeastern United States. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said it expected the storm to weaken throughout Thursday, but that it could be near hurricane strength again as it approaches South Carolina on Friday. Forecasters said northeastern Florida and coastal areas of Georgia and South Carolina could get 10 to 20 centimeters of rain, with higher amounts in some isolated areas.
