| Description | The Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) is a plover of open fields. It guards its ground nest through a bit of deception. The adult feigns a broken wing to distract a predator. When the predator comes near the adult, the Killdeer flies away. When I saw this Killdeer doing a broken wing display, I stopped, turned on my zoom lens, and captured this. |
