Summary

NASA's Spirit and Opportunity Rovers could tell you something about the ups and downs of working on Mars. Spirit is in the high ground at the Columbia Hills. It's examining a rock called 'Pot Of Gold' before it begins its climb up the martian mountains. 'Pot Of Gold' shows signs of hematite, a mineral that means water may have been in the area sometime in the distant past. That's the same mineral that Opportunity studied in Gusev Crater, but this is the first time Spirit has seen it. Dr. Steve Squyres: 'We're into totally new stuff in both places, and it's fairly wild.' Opportunity is headed down into Endurance Crater and is looking at each layer of rock as it gets deeper. Scientists say the farther down that the rover finds traces of salt, the more water that flowed over the region in the past.
