Summary
MS. STILSON: Here is a great question from Frank in Summerville. He asks, as the Shuttle is sitting on the launch pad, how is it protected from lightning strikes? MR. LYONS: Well, on the launch pad, we have a Fixed Service Structure, which is a very high structure. And we run a large metal cable up and over that structure. So if there is a lightning event out at the pad, it actually strikes this wire rather than the Shuttle or the vehicle.
