| Description | This video gives an overview of the Medline system. Medline stands for Medlars Online, or Medical Literature Analysis Retrieval System. The system is a way for visitors to the National Library of Medicine to access materials digitally. Different search methods are introduced in the video to help viewers get started. In addition, viewers are encouraged to talk to NLM librarians, who can help them navigate a new and complex system. Drawings are presented, as well as a demonstration of the use of a computer terminal to file an online bibliographic search. In this presentation the role of the National Library of Medicine in collecting and filing biomedical and scientific journals and their system for searching these articles are described first. The publication and use of Index Medicus are discussed, and the history of the establishment of Medlars.
