| Description | The first program on this tape addresses how to care for feet that have lost sensation so that they don't get injured. It begins by showing the natural inclinations of those with healthy feet. If a foot is injured, a person will bandage it and limp, favoring the foot. If they hit the foot with a heavy object, the pain will cause them to avoid that object, or to be more careful in the work or play they're involved in. People with normal sensation also tend to transfer weight from one foot to the other when standing for long periods. None of these signals or reactions happen in people with "anesthetic" feet that do not sense pain. Ulcerated feet are shown. Appropriate footwear to distribute weight and provide support is also demonstrated. The second program on the tape discusses the use of mice in leprosy research, as mice can be injected with m. leprae and symptoms studied.
