Summary

Description The film explains the enduring hunt by a team of scientists for treatments to curb cardiovascular disorders, which kill nearly a million adult Americans annually. The film features Dr. Ancel Keys, a famed physiologist who studied the effect of diet on health and is known for the Seven Countries study and for his contributions to the K-rations that fed soldiers in World War II. The film shows experiments conducted on 500 normal, healthy men from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, who are subjected to a variety of tests including running on a treadmill, blood tests, X-rays, and a personality inventory, all in attempt to explain why heart disease claims so many lives. Peabody Award winner for research.
