Summary
Australian country music duo The Weeping Willows performing the song “C.C. Rider†from two different field recordings: Field recording of Huddie “Lead Belly†Ledbetter singing and playing the guitar, recorded by Alan Lomax in Wilton, Connecticut in February, 1935. From the John Lomax Southern States collection (AFC 1935/002: AFS 52B). Field recording of Ferdinand “Jelly Roll†Morton singing and playing the piano, recorded by Alan Lomax at the Library of Congress in summer, 1938. From the Jelly Roll Morton collection (AFC 1938/001: AFS 01662 A and B). The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2024. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
