Summary

Description NASA’S DC-8 FLIES LOW TO STUDY AIR QUALITY – AFRC NASA Armstrong’s DC-8 aircraft is flying low to study air quality in a collaborative research project with NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, called AEROMMA, studying Atmospheric Emissions and Reactions Observed from Megacities to Marine Areas. Scientists from NOAA and aircraft personnel from NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California conduct a series of low-altitude flights to investigate urban emissions and atmospheric chemical reactions. Researchers fly over some of North America’s most densely populated areas like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago to measure pollution sources and their effects on climate and air quality.
