Summary
| Description | This film depicts African-Americans in rural Mississippi dealing with the impact of syphilis. A young couple, Roy and Irma, meet in a local cafe and begin a relationship. When Roy realizes he is infected with syphilis, a friend offers him a medicinal salve that claims to cure the sores. Though some symptoms go away, others appear and the disease progresses. A representative from the State Health Department visits the town and explains what syphilis is, how it is transmitted, the effect it can have on babies born to infected mothers, and how to treat it. Roy reconsiders and finally seeks medical help. He is successfully treated. Irma is tested as well, before the two get married. The two go on to marry and have a family.
