| Description | Surfside Jetty Park is a 15-acre day use beach park. Its features include a paved parking area with handy access to the beach, harbor channel and jetty, a playground, and restroom facilities. Natural attractions are fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, beachcombing, and shelling. Historically, Jetty Park sits along what was the most important harborage during the time Texas was a republic; the site of historic Fort Velasco is just outside the park. The park area also includes the site of the Velasco Town Battery, dating to before the 1860s. The battery - an emplacement with two brass cannon - was turned over to the Confederacy in 1861. Surfside Jetty County Park is at the foot of the East Jetty off Fort Velasco Drive in Surfside. surfside2Day and night fishing along the jetty and Freeport ship channel is popular as well as strolling the paved jetty which is approximately 6/10 mile long. |
