| Description | (Producer) Although neurosurgery as a surgical discipline is usually considered to have developed early in the 20th century, the roots for surgical intervention for disorders of the brain can be traced as far back as the Hippocratic writers. By the time of the introduction of anesthesia, cerebral localization, and asepsis, there was already a body of information and techniques that enabled late-19th-century neurologists and surgeons to radpidly advance this "new" field. Dr. Flamm's lecture illustrates the early development of neuroanatomy and neurosurgery, with an emphasis on the importance of illustrated material rather than just the text of the works published through the 18th century.
