Summary
| Description | Part of a series dedicated to highlighting advances in neurosciences and brain research, this lecture is part of Symposium VI: the Adaptable Brain. Speaker Richard Tsien says that to understand even one individual synapse is to understand the function of the brain. New imaging capabilities (e.g. fluorescent dyes) are able to provide insights into synapses' functionality in communcation and memory. He also describes the "Magic Marker" approach, which involves monitoring the process of transmitter-release by the uptake of a marker to a protein inside a vesicle.
