| Description | (Critical) This program presents the rationale, indications and technique or permanent tracheostomy (tracheal fenestration) and compares it with the prolonged use of the indwelling tracheostomy tube. Indications given for this procedure are laryngeal fibrosis, sleep apnea and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The well done program is recommended highly for use by house staff and surgeons. This film presents the rationale, indications, and technique of permanent tracheostomy (tracheal fenestration) and compares it with the prolonged use of the indwelling tracheostomy tube. Indications given for this procedure are laryngeal fibrosis, sleep apnea, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A series of slides, both diagrams and photographs of tissue, precedes footage of the actual procedure being performed.
