| Description | This videotape is a copy of a film of the speech given by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt at the dedication of the National Institute of Health, October 31, 1940. President Roosevelt, standing on the portico in front of Building 1, speaks about the role of government in promoting and stimulating cancer research, and the roles of the Public Health Service and the National Cancer Institute. President Roosevelt states that a strong and healthy nation results in total defense. Gov. O'Connor of Maryland and Dr. Thompson also appear. |
