Summary

Description This dataset collection contains raw shipboard data collected during expeditions conducted by the Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities (MDBC) restoration projects (hereafter MDBC projects), and processed data products derived from those shipboard data collections. The MDBC projects are administered by the Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Group (OOTIG) to compensate for injuries to natural resources from the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill. The goals of the projects are to improve understanding of MDBC to inform management and ensure resiliency, restore mesophotic and deep benthic invertebrate and fish abundance and biomass for injured species, and actively manage MDBC to protect against multiple threats and provide a framework for monitoring, education, and outreach. There are four MDBC projects: Mapping, Ground-truthing, and Predictive Habitat Modeling, Habitat Assessment and Evaluation, Coral Propagation Technique Development, and Active Management and Protection.
