Summary

Description	(Critical) This excellent program begins with a young schizophrenic patient describing his illness. The narrator describes how after the symptoms are cleared up by chemotherapy the problems are social in nature. A series of interviews with the patient and his father reveal the guilt, suppressed anger and dependency the patient feels in relation to the father; the dependence of the father on the son; and the double-bind in which the family puts the patient. The therapist then demonstrates how to engage the patient in treatment. The program clearly illustrates the major issues in the treatment of schizophrenia. he approach used to treatment is optimistic but realistic. Overall, the program is highly recommended. With the advent of strong tranquilizers that can treat schizophrenia, more patients are able to obtain treatment and eventually make their way back into normal society.
