| Description | (Critical) This program, number twelve in a series on current nursing care concepts in diabetes, presents an assessment of the visual acuity of the diabetic with cataracts, glaucoma or retinopathy, specifically in regard to measuring and preparing insulin doses, urine testing, providing foot care and preventing injury. Aids designed for the visually handicapped to make the above mentioned tasks possible are demonstrated. Services available through the Minnesota Society for the Visually Handicapped are also discussed. The presentation provides good, basic information in a simple, organized manner. However, the media chosen for this program does not appear to be the most effective instructional means for the content. Further, a lengthy presentation of services available at the Minnesota Society for the Visually Handicapped is included at the expense of a more extensive presentation of how vision is altered in diabetes and a dicussion of the emotional impact of visual impairment.
