Chechen is the third most widely spoken language in Russia (after Russian and Tatar). It is the state language of Chechnya (along with Russian) and one of the state and literary languages of Dagestan. Chechen is part of the Nakh-Dagestani language group, of which it is the most numerous in terms of the number of speakers.
