| Description | In this film, the symptoms and first aid treatment of heat exhaustion, sunstroke, and burns are presented. A sailor exhibiting the symptoms of heat exhaustion--weakness, dizziness, nausea, pale skin, profuse perspiration, clammy body, shallow breathing, weak pulse, unconsciousness, cramping of the abdominal, leg, and arm muscles--is attended by another sailor. The victim is moved to a cool place, kept in a lying position, and after he has come to, given sips of salt water to drink. Taking salt tablets during periods of profuse sweating is recommended. Heatstroke and sunstroke are caused by a derangement of the heat control mechanism of the body. The symptoms are exhibited by a sailor--pain in the head, nausea,dizzines, parched mouth, and dry skin. He should be taken to sick bay. If this is not possible, he should be moved to a cool place. A sailor is shown providing the proper treatment for a sunstroke victim.
