Summary
| Description | (Critical) This program, part of a series on children in the hospital, is a candid, unrehearsed, unnarrated portrait of a hospitalized five-year old child on his seventh day of isolation. Jonathan's developmental capabilities, coping mechanisms, reactions to stress, and interactional capabilities are depicted. An accompanying manual states as educational objectives: heightening the viewer's observational skills; encouraging a spontaneous reaction without previous interpretation; and sensitizing the viewer to the child's perspective. Pertinent discussion questions, which are keyed to positions on the video monitor, contribute significantly to the module's educational value. The lighting is not always sufficient, and the dialogue is occasionally hard to follow. This program is recommended as supplementary material for nursing programs. Credits: Elizabeth J.
