Summary

Description (Critical) This program demonstrates a bilateral thyroidectomy for papillary carcinoma. The operation is shown from beginning to end and the pertinent anatomic structures are demonstrated by the surgeon in the course of the procedure. The presentation meets its stated objectives, and is generally well done, However, some deficiencies exist. The major problem is inadequate visual qaulity. There is inadequate control of bleeding in the course of the procedure which tends toobliterate the anatomic structures that are being demonstrated. There are frequent changes of the field of vision of the camera so that the anatomic landmarks are confusing to the observer. Despite these deficiencies, this program is a useful adjunct to the surgeon both as a resident and in practice Credits: Robert A. Mustard.
